Stanley Louis Greeley

February 17, 1943 — July 7, 2020

Stanley Louis Greeley, 77, passed away on July 7, 2020 in his home in Indian Lake, Texas. At the time of his death he was surrounded by loved ones, including two of his devoted sons Adam and Louie.

Born to Louis Artumas Greeley and Carrie Marie Marker on February 17, 1943 in Sibley, Iowa, Stan was raised by loving parents and was the youngest of six siblings, including Glen, John, Mildred, Genevieve, Luella, and Letha. When he was three years old the Greeley family moved to Minnesota where the Greeley’s were able to purchase land and have their own farm where they raised corn and dairy cows.

Growing up on a farm forced Stan to become a hard physical worker, a blessed attribute that he later passed on to his children. Stan graduated high school in 1960 from Worthington High School in Minnesota. At WHS, Stan played baseball where he was the starting catcher and was also a part of the Future Farmers of America.

Following high school, Stan worked on the family farm until he volunteered in the United States Army from 1964-1967. During this time of the Cold War, Stan was stationed at Fort Wainwright where he worked where he was a part of Nike-Hercules air defense system, the first line of defense against the threat of the Soviet Union’s easiest access point to the continental USA.

After serving in the military, Stan briefly worked and managed a White Castle restaurant before spending the next 30 years as a sprinkler fitter and fire prevention specialist. During this time he was a proud member of Local Union 669, which he credits for helping him make the move to Forbes Fire Protection where he worked until 1993. During this quarter of a century and more, Stan worked in various states such as Minnesota, Kentucky, Iowa, and South Dakota, but spent most of his career in Illinois near Chicago.

In 2001, Stan joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and became a beloved member of the Brownsville 1st Ward congregation on Price Road in Brownsville, Texas. For the next 20 years Brother Greeley--as his fellow members came to love him and know him as--served in multiple voluntary positions within the congregation where his humor, knowledge, hard work, and his willingness to serve played a integral role in the lives of many as they united with him in seeking to build one another’s faith. Some of the positions he held included serving as a member of the bishopric, the ward mission leader, being a youth advisor, the building representative, girls camp cook, and as a home teacher where he diligently visited families to encourage them to follow Christ and maybe even to teach them how to make some pepper poppers.

Stan Greeley was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter Angel, wives Deanna and Carolyn, his brother John and his sister Mildred. He is survived by his children Louis, Adam, Nanette, Veronique, and Sherry, as well as his sisters Genevieve, Luella, Letha and nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
